Teaching Truths...
"Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire." -William Butler Yeats
In my classroom, I want all of my students to want to learn and better themselves. Children need a teacher to light the path for learning, but the student is the one that is on the journey.
I believe that all students can learn. They all learn in their own time, but all students are capable of great things when they apply themselves. When students struggle to learn a concept, the teacher needs to find a different way to approach the subject so the student can understand.
I believe in different modes of teaching. I encourage students to use different strategies and tools to enhance their learning. In the classroom, no single thing works for ALL students, so different kinds of lessons and materials must be present to reach all students.
I believe in problem solving. Whether it be with real world concepts or problem solving to handle situations that arise in classroom. I want my students to be active thinkers; solving problems with guidance from the teacher, but more so with skills that they will need in their adult life.
