CEP 810 - Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Professor:
Joe Codde Semester: Fall 2008 |
The purpose of CEP 810 is to teach educators how to use technology to enhance learning that is already being done in the classroom. In this class, students use various programs to demonstrate knowledge of technology that is readily available to them, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Educational Application of PowerPoint
The assignment above is a PowerPoint presentation designed to use at an Open House for families coming into a new classroom. It is set up to play in the background for families to read while visiting the classroom and talking to the teacher. Rather than having handouts and the teacher needing to do a presentation to a whole group, this is an alternative that allows the teacher to talk one-on-one with families.

CEP 811 - Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education
Professor:
Joe Codde Semester: Spring 2009 |
CEP 811 is a course that focuses on creating lessons and applications for students to use in the classroom independently. Students learn that learning outcomes, detailed instructions, and evaluation criteria are important to have in the lessons that are created.
WebQuest (Topic: Bats)
For my WebQuest assignment, I focused on bats, which was a subject that I was teaching in my 2nd grade classroom. I included the task at hand, the process that I wanted students to use while working on the task, the rubric that I would be using to evaluate student work, and a resource page for teachers to reference if needed for information on the lesson and the Michigan GLCEs that it incorporates. Using a WebQuest in the classroom allows students to work independently, at their own pace, while all completing the same task. While not included on this particular WebQuest, I feel that a page with additional websites for students to reference if needed, or if they finish early, would be helpful to have.
StAIR Project
In CEP 811, MAET students are asked to create a Stand Alone Instructional Resource (StAIR) project. To do this, I utilized the program Microsoft PowerPoint. My StAIR focuses on place value, which is a subject that many students in 2nd/3rd grade could struggle with. I included a video from the internet, a website with virtual manipulatives, and a quiz embedded in the actual presentation to check for student understanding. This resource is intended to be used by individual students or students in partnerships.

CEP 812 - Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
Professor:
Sue Wright Semester: Spring 2009 |
CEP 812 is a class in which students focus on educational problems and opportunities in a learning setting. Students are asked to evaluate and create technology-based solutions to these problems.
Personal Technology PlanIn this class, MAET students are asked to create a personal technology plan. In my plan, I focused on what I had in my classroom at the time, such as a document camera and an online grade book. I discussed the need for students to use technological materials every day - not just once a week in technology class. To see the difference in my view from this paper (written in 2009), to my view today, please see my Synthesis Essay and my Future Learner essay.
Multiple Page Website
The assignment above is a multiple page website that I created for my classroom. I used Microsoft Expressions to create the page, and it was uploaded using the FTP space that Michigan State University provided for the MAET students. I linked many of the other assignments that were assigned in CEP 812 to the page as well. The page is not as developed as I would hope that a classroom website would be; however, since this assignment, I have created a different classroom website that is hosted by Weebly online that is much more detailed and user-friendly.

CEP 820 - Teaching K12 Students Online
Professor:
Robin Dickson Semester: Summer 2009 |
Collaboration and communication of ideas with the outside world is the focus of CEP 820. Teaching methods and how they should be used online in an educational environment successfully is also of importance.
Online Poetry Unit
The website above is designed to be a mini-unit on poetry that both teachers can use as a resource and students can use to learn more about different types of poetry. It is set up similar to a WebQuest, but there are are components that ask the students to make comments on blogs to the teacher, which makes the experience fully web-based.

CEP 822 - Approaches to Educational Research
Professor:
David E. Wong Semester: Summer 2009 |
Understanding that there are problems in education that need researching is the focus of CEP 822. Determining an educational problem or idea that needs research and developing a proposal is the ultimate goal of this class.
Research Proposal - Classroom Blogging
My research plan discusses the affects of blogging in a classroom. It gives information on research that has been previously done. The proposal tells what kinds of research was looked at, details how I located the research, and important information from the research. The proposal also gives the plan for how I will expand on the research that has previously been done. It discusses the research data sources, procedures to follow and questions that will be asked while conducting the research.

CEP 805 - Learning Mathematics with Technology
Professor:
Ralph Putnam Semester: Spring 2011 |
In CEP 805, using technology to support teaching mathematics across the grade levels is the focus. Students are asked to explore a variety of online resources that could be used in the mathematics classroom.
Time and Money Resource Library
This PowerPoint presentation gives several websites that are online that students can visit to learn more about the concepts of time and money, which are concepts that 3rd grade students tend to struggle with. Information is given on each website, with many of the websites having more detailed information available by clicking on a link. There is also a lesson plan available for teachers to utilize for one of the websites.

CEP 815 - Educational Leadership
Professor:
Nick Sheltrown Semester: Spring 2011 |
CEP 815 is a class that asks MAET students to think about how new technologies can change the task of teaching. Leadership strategies, planning and evaluating new technologies are a focus.
Hybrid Learning Presentation
The presentation above discusses the concept of hybrid learning, where students learn both in a physical school and an online environment. It discusses the benefits of hybrid learning and how to go about doing so. There are speaker notes to go along with each slide, so the presentation can be presented by anybody to a group of people.

CEP 800 - Learning in School and Other Settings
Professor:
Zachary Breck Mural Semester: Spring 2012 |
In CEP 800, Master's students learn about psychological perspectives in learning. Students connect these perspectives to learning that happen in the classroom and other settings.
Digital Storytelling
In the Digital Storytelling video above, 3rd graders are struggling to stay on topic when writing stories in Writing Workshop. The Social Constructivism Theory is highlighted, discussing how students were allowed to work together to construct a plan for their writing, including a beginning, middle and end to their stories. The Information Processing Model is also highlighted because the teacher modeled for students how to do the planning before allowing them to work in partners.
Student Understanding Interview
In CEP 800, students were given the assignment to interview a person for their ideas/misconceptions on a topic. I interviewed a friend about the internet. I wanted to know his thoughts on the use of the internet of the past and the internet of today. He mentioned that he thinks that people use the internet today as a place to socialize and find things like videos to stream for entertainment. In reality, yes, those are uses of the internet. However, I view the internet as a source for information such as dictionary definitions, encyclopedia entries, and driving directions, as well as social interactions and entertainment.

CEP 813 - Electronic Portfolios
Professor:
Patrick Dickson Semester: Spring 2012 |
In CEP 813, students create an electronic portfolio that shows authentic work from the classroom for the global internet audience. Master's students learn that showcasing work within the walls of the school building is a thing of the past, and that sharing student work worldwide online is the direction that we need to be headed.
Classroom Website
For CEP 813, I created an electronic portfolio not only for myself, to highlight things that I am doing in the classroom, but also for my classroom to highlight some of the amazing things that are happening in my classroom as well. The above website is the one that I have created for my classroom that families can visit to look into the "window" of the classroom. Families can see the various activities that take place, such as Classroom Economy Market Days and Auctions, hands-on math lessons, and field trips that we attend to enhance classroom learning.

CEP 807 - Proseminar in Educational Technology
Professor:
Matthew J. Koehler Semester: Summer 2012 |
CEP 807 is the Capstone class for the Educational Technology Master's program at Michigan State University. In this class, Master's students demonstrate knowledge that they have gained while in the program, by presenting it to their peers and MSU faculty.
Educational Portfolio
For my Capstone project, I have created an online portfolio that links to many assignments that demonstrate knowledge gained while in the program, such as Stand Alone Instructional Resource (StAIR) projects, websites, digital storytelling, and podcasts. The majority of these projects have been used in my classroom for lesson purposes, or have been designed to support my classroom and it's environment.
